Big Bull's Bang'n BBQ & Southern Comfort Food | Our Story
Built from scratch in Columbia, SC
Big Bull's didn't start with investors or a business plan — it started with sandwiches for coworkers and a smoker on the side of Hard Scrabble Road. Ten years in, nothing about that has changed.
The side of the road
In 2013, Big Bull started cooking for his coworkers — and sold out every time. By 2014, he and Mama Bull were on the corner of Hard Scrabble Road on Sunday mornings, serving fried fish and BBQ to whoever pulled over.
Faith, closed doors, and April 17, 2015
Opening meant months of permit delays and "Two More Weeks" Facebook posts. They kept their faith, absorbed every unexpected cost, and opened anyway on April 17, 2015.
Built by the Bull family
This is a family operation — every daughter holds a real role. One checks every plate before it leaves, one handles cakes and banana pudding, and the youngest works the grill.
Quality over size
When the pandemic hit, Big Bull's launched their own delivery and chose to stay small rather than cut corners. The à la carte model exists so every customer gets exactly what they want, made right.
The story is still being written
Seven house-made sauces — starting with Bussin, named on the spot by a customer who couldn't find a better word. The community showed up first. Big Bull's has been showing up for them ever since.
Top 8 soul food restaurants in South Carolina
The State named Big Bull's one of South Carolina's top eight soul food restaurants. Columbia already knew.
